Elyria Pioneers Varsity out-hit Shaker Heights nine to eight, but it wasn’t enough in an 8-5 loss on Friday. Elyria Pioneers Varsity captured the lead in the first inning. Michael Knapp grounded out, scoring one run. Shaker Heights knotted the game up at two in the top of the second inning, when N Rose singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.
Shaker Heights took the lead for good with two runs in the third inning. In the third an error scored one run for Shaker Heights and D Farkas singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run. Shaker Heights scored three runs in the fifth inning. The big inning for Shaker Heights came thanks to sacrifice flies by Jo Fuller and Farkas. W Burleigh got the win for Shaker Heights. He went six innings, allowing five runs on eight hits, striking out two and walking one. O Barnard threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. Barnard recorded the last three outs to earn the save for Shaker Heights. Chris Willis took the loss for Elyria Pioneers Varsity. He lasted seven innings, allowing eight hits and eight runs while striking out five. Elyria Pioneers Varsity collected nine hits on the day. Evan Engle, Cameron Brubaker, and Hunter Osborne each managed multiple hits for Elyria Pioneers Varsity. Osborne, Brubaker, and Engle each collected two hits to lead Elyria Pioneers Varsity.
Shaker Heights racked up eight hits. Farkas and C Brown all collected multiple hits for Shaker Heights. Shaker Heights didn’t commit a single error in the field. Brown had the most chances in the field with eight.
